Baby-Led Weaning

Self-feeding can be a difficult developmental stage, no matter how good your little one is at eating. With so much advice out there, it’s hard to know what the right method is for feeding your baby. Here is a great article we found over at Parents Magazine on one of the very popular feeding methods called Baby-Led Weaning (BLW). If you haven’t heard of it and are stumped with meal-time, prepare to be amazed!

The main objective of BLW is to encourage your little one (as young as 6 months) to explore different foods and begin to actually feed themselves with their hands (yes, even at 6 months!). One of the keys to the ongoing success of BLW is choosing a safe utensil for your little one.

“Let your baby use safe utensils. It’s key, says [registered dietician Clancy Cash Harrison, author of Feeding Baby], to encourage your child to start participating in the delivery of food early on. “Let your child reach for the spoon and guide it to his mouth with or without your help,” she says. “Make sure the child is leading the process.””

The Cambio Spoon is designed to help little fingers grip the handle and maneuver an appropriate portion of food to their own mouths. The built-in choke guard also sets parents’ minds at ease and protects the little one from inserting the utensil too far into their mouth. The spoon is versatile enough for utensil beginners (children around 9 months old) and can grow with your child’s needs and skill level, following them into their toddler years and eventually graduating them to adult-sized table utensils.
